A Kelowna man now facing a second-degree murder charge was free on bail just hours before the deadly attack.
James Plover had been convicted earlier that day, July 4, after choking someone and swinging a machete during a violent incident.
Despite the conviction, both Crown and defence lawyers agreed to hold off on sentencing for several weeks while a psychiatric report was prepared.
Later that same night, Plover’s estranged wife was found gravely injured in a parking lot.
