New No Frills opens in West Kelowna, expanding grocery options

Jul 11, 2025 | 9:28 AM

A new No Frills grocery store has opened in West Kelowna, adding another major player to the city’s growing list of food retailers.

Located on Main Street in the Westridge Shopping Centre, the store officially welcomed shoppers on Thursday morning with opening-day promotions and giveaways. The location becomes the latest addition to Loblaw Companies’ discount supermarket chain, known for its no-name brand products and smaller format compared to full-service stores like Real Canadian Superstore.

The arrival of No Frills brings the number of major grocery outlets in West Kelowna to at least five, alongside Save-On-Foods, Walmart, Superstore and Nester’s Market. The store occupies a renovated space previously used by the Westbank library and is positioned within easy walking distance for many area residents.

Roughly 55 employees have been hired to operate the new store. Its central location and pedestrian-friendly design include the installation of a bike rack to accommodate non-vehicle access.

The franchise is also putting a focus on environmental sustainability through partnerships with food rescue programs such as Flashfood, Second Harvest and Loop, which help divert unsold groceries from the landfill.

On its opening day, the store marked its community involvement by donating $2,000 to the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
