Stop violence now

Various organizations call Bailey Plover’s death a wake-up call

Jul 10, 2025 | 2:13 PM

Bailey Plover’s death last week is a strong reminder that B.C. really needs to step up and do more to stop violence against women, says the CEO of YWCA Metro Vancouver.

Erin Seeley says the YWCA supports a new report that looks at how the justice system handles victims of sexual and partner violence in B.C.

The report says B.C. should officially recognize gender-based violence as a big problem, set up a team to review deaths, and put more money into preventing it.

Meanwhile, The Archway Society for Domestic Peace in Vernon calls Bailey Plover’s murder preventable. They said it shows B.C. is still failing to protect women from violence.

In a statement Thursday, Archway said the case is like the 2023 killing of Tatjana Stefanski in Vernon. Warning signs were missed in both cases.

The group urges bail reform and stronger protections for victims.

They want recent justice system recommendations to be acted on.
