Man charged with murder after ‘highly visible’ attack on Enterprise Way

A man has been charged in the killing of a woman following an attack in Kelowna Friday afternoon.

Just before 1 p.m., James Edward Plover is alleged to have used a weapon to assault Bailey Plover at the corner of Enterprise Way and Spall Road. She died later in hospital from her injuries. Another woman remains in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

In an update issued Saturday afternoon, Kelowna RCMP said they had initially responded to a report of a motor vehicle incident (what police described Friday as a hit and run) as well as an assault involving a weapon.

James Plover was arrested in Lake Country following a brief pursuit and both female victims were taken to hospital.

RCMP confirm Saturday, July 5, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of second-degree murder against James Plover.The suspect was known to the deceased victim.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 10.

“This was a highly visible and tragic event, and we recognize the profound impact it has had on many individuals and the community,” Inspector Chris Goebel, Acting Officer in Charge of the Kelowna RCMP, said.

“While our investigation is ongoing, we are incredibly grateful to the witnesses who have already come forward and the first responders who acted swiftly and professionally in managing this high-risk situation. Their cooperation has been instrumental in helping us move this complex investigation forward.”

The RCMP encourages anyone affected by this incident to seek available support services, and asked anyone with info to come forward.
