Rail Trail construction halted

Construction of the Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail has been paused pending permit approvals.

The Splatsin Development Corporation (SDC) said it was awaiting formal approval from the Agricultural Land Commission before being allowed to do any new development to the trail.

In the meantime, the SDC is moving ahead with some general maintenance work.

This includes smoothing and stabilizing the existing rail bed, along with culvert maintenance work. These activities are meant to maintain and protect the integrity of the trail and surrounding lands.

“We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we complete this necessary work,” Grahame Go, CEO of Splatsin Development Corporation, stated.

“This maintenance will improve conditions and drainage while helping prepare the corridor for future enhancements once approvals are in place.”

The SDS reminds the public to avoid entering active work areas, though notes sections of the trail are open for use in Armstrong, Enderby, and Sicamous.
