IH leadership change doesn’t quell public frustration: BC Conservative MLA

Jun 30, 2025 | 11:45 AM

Kelowna-Mission MLA Gavin Dew says the government and minister of health “should not think swapping out one person at the top of Interior Health (IH) will resolve public frustration.”

IH announced last week that Susan Brown had stepped down as CEO.

BC Conservative Dew, acknowledged Health Minister Josie Osborne is visiting KGH today, Monday, June 30, but said some groups of healthcare professionals have been selectively excluded from meetings.

Dew cited various frustrations like 50 hospital beds worth of space sitting unfinished and unused for more than a decade while patients are treated in crowded hallways and the need for more doctors to be trained at UBCO and for more lab techs from Okanagan College.

“This crisis didn’t appear overnight—and it didn’t happen in a vacuum, ” Dew said in a media release. “It’s the direct result of years of neglect, mismanagement, and a minister of health who’s been absent while communities like Kelowna have been crying out for help.”
