Okanagan’s drought rating steady at Level 2
The Okanagan’s drought conditions have remained steady, despite some cooler, wetter weather.
The B.C. River Forecast Centre reported the local area was at Drought Level 2 on Thursday, June 26. This is the third consecutive week a rating of Level 2 was given in the Okanagan, meaning conditions are beyond abnormally dry, but are still on the low end of the severity index.
The Similkameen, Lower Thompson, and South Thompson areas all remained steady on a week-over-week basis as well at Level 3, Level 2, and Level 1, respectively. However, the North Thompson, Bridge, and Nicola areas all saw their ratings rise to Level 2 on Thursday.
The River Forecast Centre said there had been notable rainfall in the southeast over the previous week, but it wasn’t enough to offset the deteriorating drought conditions.
