Measles cases confirmed in Kelowna, Interior

Jun 26, 2025 | 5:17 PM

Interior Health has confirmed more measles cases in the region, including in the Okanagan.

The health authority said cases of the infectious disease have been confirmed in the Kelowna, Salmon Arm, Kamloops and Nelson areas.

IH said it was directly contacting individuals who were known to be exposed to the cases for contact tracing purposes.

Measles is a highly infectious disease and transmitted by airborne spread.

Early symptoms can develop within three weeks of being exposed and include fever, dry cough, runny nose and red eyes; followed days later by a rash that usually starts on the face and rapidly spreads down the body.

People at risk of contracting measles include those who have never had the disease before and those who have not had their measles vaccine.

Anyone who develops symptoms of measles were asked to call 811 for an initial assessment.

IH also asked that anyone who needs medical attention for measles to wear a mask when visiting a health-care facility.
