Water work

Targeted flushing continues in West Kelowna’s Rose Valley neighbourhood

Jun 25, 2025 | 10:56 AM

The City of West Kelowna is moving into the next phase of its watermain flushing program within the Rose Valley Water Service Area, with a new zone coming into focus starting Wednesday, June 25.

This section covers an area stretching roughly from Lakeview Cove Road east to Boucherie Road, and from Menu Road north to Ogden Road. A water quality advisory will be in effect for this zone while the work is underway. City officials say the notice is precautionary and will remain until flushing is complete and water samples confirm the system meets health standards.

The city is now operating in smaller, more targeted zones, a change officials say was made in response to resident feedback. The revised approach is intended to give households more accurate timelines and reduce confusion.

Flushing in this area is expected to continue through July 4. Crews will be on-site weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with some work possibly taking place in the evening or on weekends, depending on weather or other operational needs.

The work involves using high-pressure water through hydrants to remove natural sediment buildup inside the pipes, including manganese. During this process, residents may notice temporary water discolouration or a brief drop in pressure. The city advises these impacts are short-term and should resolve once flushing in the area is finished.

As a precaution, families with infants are asked not to use tap water to prepare baby formula during flushing periods, due to the potential for increased manganese levels.
