Jun 23, 2025 | 10:25 AM

Armstrong and Spallumcheen residents will have a new landfill for everyday waste in the near future.

Construction of a new Residential Transfer Station at the Armstrong Spallumcheen Diversion and Disposal Facility began Monday, June 23.

The existing landfill has neared capacity, and the facility is being expanded by knocking down four bay transfer station and building a new eight bay residential transfer station. A new entrance and exit will also be constructed to improve traffic flow.

While construction of the facility at 3367 Powerhouse Road is underway, people using the site will be asked to plan accordingly and follow all posted signage and staff direction around the construction site. Customers will be informed in advance of any service level adjustments required for the construction. The Regional District of North Okanagan said construction at the facility was expected to extend through the fall of 2025.

The RDNO added that, if the Armstrong Spallumcheen site cannot meet the needs of customers during construction, people could use the Diversion and Disposal Facilities in Greater Vernon and Lumby to dispose of their waste.
