— Original Story —

A small wildfire has been found burning near the community of Falkland and a firefighting crew is on scene.

The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) said the blaze was initially discovered near Estekwalan Mountain, northwest of Falkland, on Wednesday and was mapped at approximately 5 x 10 metres Thursday.

The BCWS said there was some trouble accessing the site initially, but a helicopter brought a crew of three firefighters with water out to the scene to action it around noon Thursday.

The fire was a smoldering ground fire as of the latest update when the unit was dispatched.

The fire, which was still classified as being out of control as of time of publication, was suspected of being caused by lighting.
