The Regional District of North Okanagan is supporting a provincial road work project in the area.

To address traffic volumes, enhance public safety, and support future community development, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is widening Sarsons Road. That road runs alongside Highway 6 and connects Middleton Way with Middleton Drive.

“The scope of work for this funding is to increase the road width by 1-2 meters along a 757-meter section of Sarsons Road within Electoral Area “C” to enhance infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists,” and RDNO staff report said.

“This project supports strategic transportation objectives and is aligned with the community’s long-term development plans.”

The project had a projected cost of $63,380, and the province requested the RDNO contribute some funding to support the work.

The Board of Directors voted in favour of providing $32,000 from the Community Works Fund for Electoral Area “C” to support the project at the June 18 meeting.

The staff report noted this project aligns with regional and Area “C” priorities, and does not override or take precedence over Regional District-owned infrastructure projects.
