System under pressure

Kelowna MLAs urge health minister to visit KGH

Kelowna-area B.C. Conservative MLAs are calling on Health Minister Josie Osborne to visit Kelowna General Hospital, saying staff are overwhelmed and the system is under serious pressure.

After touring the emergency department, the MLAs pointed to low morale, unused hospital space, and growing frustration among healthcare workers.

“What we have all heard over and over is clear: confidence is shattered, morale is dangerously low, and people feel abandoned and unheard,” said Gavin Dew, MLA for Kelowna–Mission in a press release.

They’ve invited the Minister to a public town hall on July 2 to hear concerns directly – and say it will go ahead with or without her.

“This isn’t only a staffing problem, it’s a leadership vacuum,” said Macklin McCall, MLA for West Kelowna-Peachland. “The people keeping Kelowna General Hospital running deserve to have their voices heard. We are calling on Minister Osborne to immediately visit KGH and listen to feedback from those on the ground — raw and unfiltered.“
