Water Restrictions, Boil Water Notice Issued

The Boil Water Notice for select properties attached to the Delcliffe water system was rescinded Friday, June 20.

Greater Vernon Water said sample testing showed the bacteria levels in the system were within the safe drinking standard.

People may notice air in their pipes or discoloured water, and GVW recommended people run their cold taps until the water turns clear, adding it was best to do this using an outdoor tap.

Greater Vernon Water has rescinded the water restrictions for customers attached to the Delcliffe water system.

The restrictions were lifted Wednesday, June 18, after operators and divers restored the pumping capacity.

Though the order was removed and water restrictions were returned to the Normal stage, the Boil Water Notice remained in effect Wednesday.

The notice, issued for select properties due to a water outage Tuesday, will remain in effect until sample testing shows the water is within the safe drinking standard.

Until then, customers were advised to bring tap water to a roiling boil for a full minute before drinking; using to make food and drink, including ice and baby formula; and brushing teeth.

Greater Vernon Water has issued orders for customers connected to the Delcliffe Water Utility.

Due to an intake issue, immediate emergency water restrictions were issued to all properties connected to the system Tuesday, June 17.

Under the restrictions water use must be limited to essential household needs only, such as drinking, preparing food, flushing toilets, and other personal essential purposes.

A Boil Water Notice was also issued Tuesday to the customers due to a water outage in the Delcliffe system.

Customers in the affected area were urged to bring water to a roiling boil for a full minute before drinking; preparing food or drink, including making ice, cleaning fruit and vegetable, and making baby formula; and before brushing teeth. GVW also advised people use alternate water sources, such as bottled water, for these purposes.

GVW will provide updates on the blockage causing the water restrictions, and on the water sample testing when it shows the bacterial levels have fallen to within the standard drinking range.
