RCMP seeking volunteers to help crack down on speeders
Jun 11, 2025 | 2:35 PM
Kelowna RCMP is looking for more volunteers to join Operation Speed Watch.
It’s just a 2 to 4-hour weekly commitment that helps slow down traffic in school zones, neighbourhoods, and busy streets.
Research shows over 70% of drivers exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 km/h, yet slow down when they see speed boards.
Portable radar equipment and an electronic digital board capture drivers’ speeds. If a vehicle is caught travelling 20 km/hr or more over the posted speed limit, a letter is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle.
