A ban on Category 2 Open Fires within the Kamloops Fire Centre will go into effect ahead of the weekend.
The B.C. Wildfire Service ordered the prohibition for the area that includes Vernon, Kelowna and the Okanagan to begin at noon Friday, June 13.
Category 2 Fires are described as either being burn piles not exceeding two metres in height and three metres in width, or burning stubble or grass over an area that does not exceed 0.2 hectares.
The BCWS issued a Category 3 Open Fire prohibition in mid May.
