Normal Water Restrictions

Greater Vernon residents asked to conserve water as reservoir levels are monitored

Jun 3, 2025 | 11:04 AM

With summer heat fast approaching, Greater Vernon Water customers are being urged to follow restrictions and conserve water wherever possible.

GVW said normal water restrictions were in effect Tuesday, June 3, in an effort to ensure sustainable water supply throughout the summer.

The utility provider stated all three upper Aberdeen Plateau reservoirs reached full storage and were spilling as of May 30, though noted there is concern that the trend of below average rainfall in April and May could continue through June. The reservoirs will be monitored during the month to determine if further restrictions will be required to preserve the water supply.

“June is a critical month, as it typically marks the peak of annual water storage and sets the tone for drought planning for the high-demand months that follow,” GVW stated in a release.

Under normal restrictions, GVW customers can:

  • Use manual sprinklers three days a week between the hours of 6 and 10 a.m., or 7 p.m. and 12 a.m.
  • Use automated sprinklers three days a week between 12 and 6 a.m.
  • Use micro-jet or drip irrigation anytime
  • Hand water with a watering can or hose with spring-loaded nozzle anytime
  • Fill or refill pools, ponds and water features on days and during times permitted by their schedule
  • Use a mop and bucket or hose with a spring loaded nozzle to clean driveways, decks, and outdoor spaces
  • Use a bucket or commercial car wash to clean vehicles, boats and ATVs

The normal watering restrictions allows people with odd address to do the aforementioned activities on Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays, while people at even addressed properties can do it on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

GVW noted new sod is exempt from watering restrictions for two weeks after installation, and newly seeded laws are exempt for six weeks.
