Local high schoolers take home hardware in rowing competition

Several Vernon rowers made it to the podium at the Delta Deas Scholastic Regatta.

The event, held on May 24 and 25, saw Vernon athletes compete against 228 crews from across B.C. on the 1,000 metre course.

The local rowers made their mark on the competition, taking home five golds and two silvers:

  • Peter Masys and Leo Middelkamp won gold in the U17 Mens Double
  • Cole O’Connor and Sierra Munroe came in first in the Mixed Double race
  • Munroe also partnered with Aida Mills in the U19 Womens Pair, where they earned a gold medal
  • Peter Masys took gold in the U17 Mens Single
  • O’Connor locked down another gold in the U19 Mens Single
  • Munroe and Amy Milne took silver in the U19 Women’s 2X
  • O’Connor and Ryland Holmgren took silver in the U19 Mens Double

The Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boat Club said it hoped to see the local athletes continue to hold their momentum as action returns tot heir home town.

The annual Lap the Lake regatta at Swan Lake will begin June 14 at 9 a.m., and the club encouraged people come out and cheer on the local rowers.
