Dog beach pilot to run at Kalamalka Lake from mid-June

A beach in Coldstream will open up to dogs.

District Council approved establishing Pumphouse Beach as an off-leash dog park, giving pet owners a place to take their pups to cool down in the summer months.

The beach will have to be upgraded to accommodate the dog park with the installation of a bear-proof garbage bin and a dog bag dispenser, as well as additional signage. Those would cost a combined $3,000, with the district noting it already owns the garbage bin and bag dispenser that it can install with a week’s lead time.

The park will require an estimated $300 per month in staff time to support enhanced maintenance such as garbage collection, condition checks, and beach raking.

The dog park will open on June 16, 2025, and will be in place on a one-year term as a pilot project.

The district asked dog owners to use the on-site waste disposal services, park in designated areas, and be respectful of other beach users once the dog beach opens.
