Heavy smoke and flames were visible from a distance, with the fourplex located not far from Mission Hill Winery. Multiple fire units responded to the scene, and crews remained on site into the late morning hours.

No one was hurt according to Acting Captain Bryce McEwen who spoke to Vernon Matters at the scene.

“The fire on a deck quickly spread, ” he said. ” All the people got out – there were four families- and one side of the building was fully involved. There’s also smoke and water damage in the other units.”

“It started with the BBQ and we’ll have our investigators look at but it’s not suspicious at this time.”
