Road closures in place for Knox Mountain Downhill this weekend

May 28, 2025 | 11:40 AM

Drivers and parkgoers should prepare for road closures and parking restrictions at Knox Mountain Park this weekend as the annual Knox Mountain Downhill longboarding event rolls into town.

The race begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 31 and continues through to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1. The event attracts longboarders from across the region for two days of high-speed downhill competition. Full event details can be found here.

To accommodate the event, the lower 1.5 kilometres of Knox Mountain Drive — from the park entrance to the first lookout — will be closed to vehicle traffic starting at 7 a.m. Saturday. The road will remain closed for the duration of the weekend.

Pedestrians will still be allowed in the area and can watch from designated spectator zones. Hikers can access trails, including the Apex Trail, during times when the race course is not in use by riders or shuttle vehicles. Event volunteers will be stationed throughout the park to help ensure pedestrian and hiker safety.

Visitors are also advised that ongoing utility upgrades in Kelowna’s North End may limit access to some parking areas near the park. Temporary closures will be marked with signage. Those planning to attend are encouraged to walk, bike or carpool to help reduce traffic and parking congestion.
