Site preparation is set to begin this week in preparation of the second phase of the naturalization project through Polson Park.

Contractors will be undertaking Phase 2 of the Polson Park Vernon Creek Naturalization project from June through November.

A city staff report stated workers would be setting up fencing during the week of May 26, encompassing the creek from just south of the washroom facility all the way down to the bridge. It will also enclose the east side of the oval track, and the section of the park south of the playground.

The report noted the internal road will be closed during the work period, and public parking would only be available by the fountain and tennis court areas.

The project will see Vernon Creek restored to a more natural state by replacing existing concrete banks with a meandering channel to mitigate flood risks; adding natural features to enhance fish habitat and spawning areas; installing new crossings; and planting riparian plants.
