Maintenance, projects planned as Swan Lake park turns 20

It has been 20 years since Swan Lake Nature Reserve Park was established, and there are several projects planned for the site in 2025.

A report from the North Okanagan Naturalists Club, presented to the Regional District of North Okanagan’s Board of Directors, outlined the planned work at the park.

The efforts include installing bat boxes, bird perching poles and benches; planting native grasses, wildflowers, shrubs and trees; removing debris from past farming operations; and doing watering and other maintenance.

The Naturalist Club said it had secured funding from the Greater Vernon Trails and Natural Spaces Grant to support these projects. The funding total was not disclosed in the RDNO agenda package.

The club had been maintaining the park since 2021 and past work included installing osprey nesting poles and platforms, planting trees and shrubs, installing signage, and maintaining the viewing tower.
