A provincial program to promote economic diversification, clean-economy opportunities and infrastructure development is supporting two local projects.

The Government of British Columbia is distributing $43-million in support of 130 projects across the province through the Rural Economic Diversity and Infrastructure Program (REDIP).

Locally, the program will provide the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce with $274,099 to support the implementation of a new business and community marketing strategy.

The Lumby and District Chamber of Commerce will also receive $94,500 to expand and support economic capacity in the village.

“Lumby is a vibrant and resilient community, home to dedicated leaders who care deeply about its future,” Vernon-Lumby MLA Harwinder Sandhu, said.

“This grant will support the Lumby and District Chamber of Commerce in growing local economic opportunities, creating good-paying jobs and bringing people together through more community events.”

Other projects in the region receiving support through REDIP include:

  • South Shuswap Chamber of Commerce: $68,000 for infrastructure recovery and enhancements to promote economic development and tourism in the region
  • Shuswap Economic Development Society: $111,360 to implement an investment attraction strategy
  • City of Revelstoke: $100,000 for the GROW (Growth, Resilience, Opportunity, Workforce) Revy project

“We’re partnering with rural community leaders to invest in the future of their local economies,” Diana Gibson, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation stated.

“By helping fund impactful projects throughout the province, we’re supporting people and helping their communities to flourish.”

The next application intake period for REDIP will open in July of 2025.
