A daylight robbery was attempted at a downtown Vernon jewelry store.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP confirmed that a panic alarm was set off at Kraus Jewellers on 30th Ave. shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, May 15.

Officers arrived on the scene and learned that two men had attempted to rob the business.

One of the suspects was allegedly wielding a small axe and moved toward a display case, but an employee confronted them and deterred the would-be-robber, who fled the store.

Officers patrolled the area but could not locate either suspects, who were both wearing black pants and black hoodies.

The investigation remained open and Mounties said they were canvassing for video from area businesses and asking anyone with information to contact the Vernon detachment at 250-545-7171.
