Kelowna’s multi-faceted DeHart Park is open

Just in time for the summer, the City of Kelowna has opened another public amenity in a growing list of special recreational spaces.

On Saturday morning the community came out to celebrate the arrival of DeHart Park, a nine-acre combination of play and leisure space at 687 DeHart Road.

Originating as a concept in 2010, and involving much public feedback, it offers a number of amenities while keeping its original treescape. The park now also has a pollinator and dryland meadow.

There are courts for pickleball and basketball, a multi-use field, outdoor fitness equipment, a playground, a children’s water play area, a fenced-off dog space, games area, skate feature, pump track, walking loop, picnic tables, seating areas, and a relocated community garden.

“With something for all ages and abilities—from play areas and sports courts to walking paths and community gardens—this park is a place where friends can gather, residents can enjoy the outdoors, and families can create lasting memories,” Mayor Tom Dyas said, in part.
