Water Main Breaks

Water quality advisory issued following water main breaks

May 1, 2025 | 4:47 PM

Over two dozen properties in the South Vernon were put under a water quality advisory Thursday.

Greater Vernon Water issued the advisory May 1 for select properties on Allenby Place, Lardeau Way, and Allenby Crescent after two water main breaks caused depressurization and a loss of water pressure in the area.

GVW said the breaks were being repaired and flushing would be done after that, noting the advisory would be in place until testing showed the water was safe to consume.

When service resumes, people may experience reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water, and air in the pipes. In these cases people should run their cold taps until the water turns clear, with GVW advising people do this process using an outdoor tap.

Until the water is deemed safe to consume, people were advised to bring water to a roiling boil for a full minute before drinking, using to prepare or make food or drink, and brushing teeth.
