Conservative Tracy Gray thanks supporters after election defeat in Kelowna

Outgoing Conservative MP for Kelowna, Tracy Gray, has congratulated Liberal winner Stephen Fuhr, and thanked her team and supporters following the nail-biting tussle on election night.

In a social media post Gray said it had been an honour to stand up for issues important to people in the community in Ottawa.

There were no formal celebrations or concessions Monday night because the result appeared too close but Fuhr ended over 1,000 votes ahead once final counting was done Tuesday.

Gray, who trailed all night, had pushed Fuhr to within 66 votes at one stage of the contest before final counting showed the Liberal with a 1,077 lead.

Gray represented the local riding from 2019, when she defeated Fuhr. She had been a city councillor before that.

In congratulating MP-elect Fuhr, she also offered thanks to her family, supporters, donors, and volunteers.

“I’m proud of the tireless efforts made on this campaign in reaching out to people across our community to hear what is most important to them – over 80,000 doorsteps collectively – and for the gains in support we saw, ” she posted, in part.
