Funtastic seeks funding to offset operation costs, receives city’s support

The City of Vernon will be backing a funding request by Funtastic Sports Society.
The Society, which organizes and runs the annual Funtastic Slo Pitch and Music Festival in Vernon, will apply for B.C. government funding through the Destination Events Program.
The provincial program will provide funding of to 10 per cent of an events total budget, with a maximum of $200,000 per event, to cover operation expenses. Key objectives for the use of the funds include boosting local economies by attracting visitors, creating jobs and supporting businesses; and supporting shoulder and off-season tourism growth.
As Funtastic Sports Society was preparing an application for funding, Vernon City Council voted in favour of having Mayor Victor Cumming write a letter in support of the Society, to be included in the application.
