Final result still pending as special ballot count resumes

UPDATE: Ballot counting has resumed.

Elections Canada has temporarily paused the counting of special ballots, with counting scheduled to resume at 12:30 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday.

The agency says the break was needed to give counters and scrutineers rest after a night of extended counting, driven by strong voter turnout.

A high number of advance and special ballots has delayed final results in several tightly contested ridings, including Kelowna.

As of this morning, it remains unclear whether Mark Carney’s Liberals will form a majority or minority government. The outcome hinges on a handful of too-close-to-call races, including Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s seat in Carleton, where he is projected to lose.

Elections Canada says it expects all ballots to be counted and final results shared Tuesday afternoon.
