Next month marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, and as part of that remembrance there’s a special event coming to Kelowna.

On Friday, May 2, the KF Centre for Excellence will host Triumph & Tragedy: The Tale of WWII’s Most Accomplished Bomber, Mosquito ‘F for Freddie’, a special edition of the centre’s Speaking Series. It goes from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

In a media release, the KF Centre said renowned aviation historian Richard de Boer will present the gripping true story of F for Freddie – a de Havilland Mosquito bomber that completed more missions than any other Allied aircraft during WWII, only to tragically crash in Calgary days after the war ended in Europe.

Historian Richard de Boer will present the story of the storied WWII Mosquito bomber

De Boer, who has spent nearly 50 years researching this remarkable aircraft and its legacy, will take attendees on a journey through its untold history, Canadian connection, and ultimate sacrifice.

This event will reflect on the heroism of the Mosquito crews and honour the contributions of Canadian airmen during the Second World War.

The Centre’s own restored Mosquito will be a central point of reflection throughout the evening.

Tickets are $10 per person and are available for this one-night only event at kfcentre.ca.
