Kelowna RCMP seize cocaine, cash in downtown drug bust

A suspicious vehicle spotted in downtown Kelowna led to a significant drug seizure by RCMP.

Police say members of the Kelowna RCMP Proactive Enforcement Unit (PEU) were conducting surveillance in the 1200 block of St. Paul Street on April 11 when they observed a vehicle displaying behaviour consistent with drug trafficking.

A traffic stop was conducted and the lone occupant of the vehicle was arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking. Officers say they found more than $8,600 in various denominations and suspected illicit drugs inside the vehicle.

The investigation led police to a residence associated with the suspect in the 550 block of Coronation Avenue. A search warrant was executed, resulting in the seizure of approximately three kilograms of cocaine and $14,000 in cash.

“The Kelowna RCMP detachment and its PEU is dedicated to the safety of the public and targeting the local drug traffickers,” said Cpl. Guillaume Tanguay in a news release. “Our teams will continue to hold those responsible who negatively impact our community.”

RCMP have not said how many arrests were made or if any formal charges have been laid.

The investigation is ongoing.
