Final day of Advance Voting in federal election

Apr 21, 2025 | 10:31 AM

It appears the momentum of interest in Advance Voting for the federal election hasn’t waned, while Elections Canada are giving optimum times for people to cast their ballot.

Scores of electors were seen in line-ups around Vernon and Kelowna soon after the polls opened Monday morning, which is the fourth day of early voting.

Elections Canada reported nearly 2 million votes Friday, a record for day 1 of advance voting. In a social media post Saturday the agency said preliminary estimates showed a record number.

“To all the electors who had to wait in line, thank you for your patience! We’re going to continue to adjust over the next few days to handle the high traffic!” it said.

Also, Elections Canada has highlighted the peak times observed for voting so electors can plan accordingly. After 10 a.m. and before 4 p.m. are the times to vote to avoid the peak periods, if possible.

Outside one local voting station Monday morning there were scores of people joining the queue with several others already inside.

One local who marked their ballot told us it’s a privilege to cast a vote in Canada while another said they thought people are very motivated by this election.

Advance Voting ends at 9 p.m. today.
