Record start as advance voting continues

Apr 20, 2025 | 8:23 AM

Advance voting for the federal election continued Sunday amid early record turnout. Monday is the final day of advance voting before the election day, April 28.

Sunday is Day 3 of early voting, with the polls open from 9 a-m to 9 p-m, despite the Easter holiday. The advance polls will officially wrap up tomorrow night.

As for the federal leaders, they are still on the campaign trail. The Liberal’s Mark Carney will be in Ottawa, while both Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and the N-D-P’s Jagmeet Singh have appearances in British Columbia.

Nearly two million people showed up across the country to cast a ballot on Friday, with Elections Canada reporting the record turnout on the first day of four days for advanced voting in the federal election.

Elections Canada said in a social media post it will be making adjustments over the coming days to handle the high traffic after many voters were met with long lineups at polling stations.

Almost 5.8 million voters turned out for advanced polls in the last federal election in 2021, which was up more than 18 per cent from figures in 2019.

This year’s four advanced voting days land over the April long weekend.
