Sentences handed down in armed robbery case

Two men have been sentenced to approximately a decade behind bars in connection with an armed robbery case.

Edward Coghill and Stewart Tkachuck appeared in Vernon court Monday, April 14, where they were learned their sentences.

The B.C. Prosecution Service told Vernon Matters both Coghill and Tkachuck were found guilty of break and enter to commit a robbery; discharge of a firearm wit intent to wound; face masked with intent to commit an indictable offence; unlawful confinement; aggravated assault; and possession of a firearm without a license.

Tkachuck was also found guilty of possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Tkachuck was sentenced to 12 years in prison, minus time served, so will spend the next 3,565 days (nine years and nine months) behind bars.

Coghill was sentenced to 11 years minus time served, which equaled to 3,775 days (10 years and four months) in prison.

The Prosecution Service added both Coghill and Tkachuck were also ordered to provide DNA samples, were issued firearm prohibitions, and were ordered to not contact one another while in custody.
