Bursary applications open for performing arts student

The next generation of performers could receive some monetary support to pursue their craft.

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society (VDPAC) opened applications for its annual Performing Arts Bursaries Thursday, April 10.

Under the program, VDPAC will provide five $2,000 awards to local students entering into, or returning to, full-time performing arts studies at university, college or a technical school.

VDPAC’s deadline to apply for the grants was set for 12 a.m. midnight, Friday, May 16.

The deadline to apply for the 2025 bursaries was set for an earlier date than in previous years, which would allow VDPAC to announce the recipients in time for local graduation ceremonies.

“For graduating Grade 12 students applying to post-secondary Music, Theatre, Dance, Technical or other Performing Arts programs, this year’s May 16th deadline may pre-date graduating students’ formal notice of acceptance from their institutions,” Jim Harding, VDPAC’s executive director, said.

“But these students can still apply for VDPAC’s bursaries. Selected students will be required to submit a signed copy of their official confirmation as soon as it is received.”

VDPAC funded the bursaries through tips collected at VDPAC’s Bar and Concession and lower level Coatcheck Gallery , though the organization said it was looking at ways to expand its funding and provide more bursaries in the future.

Details about the applications for the 2025 Performing Arts Bursaries could be found online here.
