Vernon RCMP implementing body cams
Police in Vernon will be equipped with body cameras in the near future.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said body worn cameras will be issued to frontline officers who are performing operational policing duties.
The initial rollout of the cameras will take place over a 10-day period so officers can do both online and in-person, hands-on training. Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said rollout would begin in late-April, though did not provide an exact date.
The RCMP said body-worn cameras provide increased transparency, accountability, and public trust. They will also allow for the RCMP to resolve complaints more quickly, and improve interactions between police and the public.
