Election 2025

Independent withdraws from local riding, endorses Liberal candidate

Apr 8, 2025 | 1:00 PM

The Independent candidate running in the Vernon-Lake Country-Monashee riding has withdrawn from the race.

In a release, Korry Zepik said he withdrew from the ballot Monday, April 7, ahead of nominations closing.

“[I withdrew] not for lack of enthusiasm for my vision of a progressive and united Canada, or for any failure of the principle of ethical, intelligent decision making, but because of them,” Zepik said in the release.

“Given the current situation, it is neither wise nor ethical for me to remain as a candidate and split the vote.”

The Independent went on to say he entered the running when there was no publicly acknowledged candidates from the Liberal, NDP, or Green parties, but that situation changed and he said there was a “formidable and honourable” Liberal candidate on the ballot.

“I respect Anna Warwick Sears as an astute, principled person and recommend that the NDP and Green parties follow my example,” Zepik wrote.

“I say this with much gravity as the words and actions of the current U.S. administration prove a clear and present danger to our country, our way of life and our vision of who we are. Our country is under its greatest threat since 1812 and Canada as a free country will only survive if we stick together, in unity.”

Zepik went on to say that he wants Canadians to join together and be united in the fight to protect Canada’s sovereignty, and to build a strong, more self-reliant, and equitable nation.

General voting for the 2025 federal election will go on April 28.
