Compromise plan approved for Kalamoir Regional Park

Plans to widen trails in Kalamoir Park on the Westside have been dialed back following pushback from nearby residents.

The Central Okanagan board approved a reduced plan that upgrades only the Waterfront Trail to current standards.

The steep Sunnyside Trail will remain narrow with small changes for safety and conservation.

Some groups are unhappy, but others call the move a fair middle ground for everyone involved.

A media release from the RDCO Friday said, in part, the plan aligns with the board’s strategic priorities, focusing on improved accessibility for users of all abilities. It also proposes upgrades to parking areas, multi-use trail enhancements for improved safety and habitat protection.

Extensive public engagement was conducted in 2022 and 2023, gathering valuable input from community members and interested parties. Measures to protect and maintain the park’s stunning natural environment, wildlife habitat and ecosystem values are integral to the plan.
