Guilty plea expected in flight from police case

A man charged in an alleged flight from police case is expected to plea guilty.

Dale Babiy appeared in Vernon court on Thursday for an arraignment hearing. Babiy was arrested in December 2024 after police reportedly deployed a spike strip to stop a stolen vehicle and then had to chase down the suspect on foot.

Babiy was charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property and driving while prohibited.

The B.C. Prosecution Service said Babiy was due back in court on April 4 and was expected to enter a guilty plea at that time.

Babiy will also be in court for a second purpose on Friday.

He was found guilty in an assault with a weapon trial in March, but his counsel ordered pre-sentence reports before a sentencing hearing could be set. Those were expected to be ready on April 4.
