The New Democratic Party (NDP) has formally announced its candidates for the Kelowna area for this month’s federal election.

Trevor McAleese will run in the Kelowna riding while Harpreet Badohal will contest the race in the Okanagan Lake West-South Kelowna constituency.

In a media release from the party, McAleese is described as a lifelong Okanagan resident and independent video game developer. He has experience in multiple industries—including agriculture, hospitality, and technology. As the owner of his own video game studio, he sees immense potential in Kelowna as a hub for entertainment media production. Guided by a philosophy of environmental stewardship, Trevor is determined to bring lasting economic prosperity to the region and ensure the city’s youth have access to careers in cutting-edge industries.

Badohal, a registered health and safety professional, brings a deep commitment to public service and social justice. With a strong academic background, including an M.Sc. in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene from UBC’s Faculty of Medicine, Harpreet has spent years working to improve workplace safety and advocate for fair, accessible services. Inspired by his Sikh faith and the principle of Sewa (selfless service), Harpreet is dedicated to listening, learning, and collaborating with the community to build a sustainable economic future where essential services are available to all without delay.

Richard Canning, the NDP MP for South Okanagan-West Kootenay praised the duo.

“Harpreet and Trevor are two incredible candidates who understand the struggles that folks in the Okanagan are facing,” he said. “They are ready to build upon the work done by their NDP colleagues to secure dental, pharmacare, childcare, and so much more. Both understand what it means to work hard and serve their communities with integrity.”
