New Prospera Place scoreboard from American company

The new digital scoreboard for Prospera Place – which will be part of the plus $5 million upgrades ahead of the 2026 Memorial Cup – is coming from an American company.

The new scoreboard is part of an additional $1.3 million approved by council for various equipment. That also includes new ice-making equipment and sound system.

Given the fierce political push by all provinces for Canadian products amid the trade war with the United States, the question came up at this week’s city council meeting.

A city official said the manufacturer of the new scoreboard, Daktronics, was chosen from 18 suppliers who were part of a bidding process initiated in early 2023. The equipment, the first new scoreboard at Prospera Place since it opened 25 years ago, is expected to be installed in June.
