Local gas prices drop with removal of Consumer Carbon Tax

The removal of the Consumer Carbon Tax in B.C. led to gas prices falling immediately.

The provincial government introduced and passed legislation to remove the carbon tax for individual purposes Monday, March 31, which came into effect Tuesday, April 1. As of that morning, it had already translated to price decreases at the local pumps.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, the average price per litre of regular gasoline in Vernon was recorded at $1.44.9.

That was down 17¢ from the average price the day before, which was $1.61.9 per litre, as reported by GasBuddy. That decrease reflected the removal of the tax.

With that change, Vernon’s average price for regular gasoline also fell 7¢ from the previous month’s average, and 23¢ on an annual basis.

GasBuddy had not updated its average price of regular gasoline for Kelowna or B.C. as a whole to reflect the rescinding of the tax Tuesday morning. But according to the gas price tracking website, it was projected that the average price in Kelowna would decrease to $1.41.9 per litre, while the provincial average would fall to $1.57.1.
