Job Fair to go at Vernon Lodge

Vernon’s largest hiring event will go next week

The Vernon Job Fair will go at the Vernon Lodge from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 10.

The event will see recruiters and representatives from over 20 actively hiring companies and colleges speak with people in search of work in the North Okanagan.

“This is an excellent opportunity to discover what jobs are available and what employers are offering as compensation and benefits,” Lee Brinkman, Events & Marketing Manager with NexusBC’s Community Resource Centre, the organizer of the Job Fair, said.

“Local colleges will also be on site to answer questions and help provide career advice.”

The latest report from Statistics Canada showed the unadjusted unemployment rate for the Thompson-Okanagan economic region was 5.7 per cent in February, while the employment rate was 5.5 per cent.

“As the competition for jobs increases, job fairs are an excellent way to get in front of the individual who does the hiring and make that connection,” Brinkman said.

“If you’re looking for work or considering a career or job change, this is the absolute best place to be.”

NexusBC encouraged people attending the Job Fair to dress as if they were going to an interview, bring multiple copies of your resume, practice you sales pitch, and be prepared to answer questions such as “tell me a bit about yourself.”

Anyone interested in assistance preparing their resume or for the interview process were encouraged to contact the WorkBC Centres in Vernon or Enderby.
