The local fire department hosted a multi-day training wildfire training opportunity for Interior firefighters.

From March 25 to 28, Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) hosted the Responding to the Interface program which saw firefighters attend classes and participate in hands-on training to learn about fire response scenarios and enhance their skills in wildland fire management, with a specific focus on complex wildland-urban interface area responses.

“This training is an important tool for ensuring the safety of our firefighters and the communities they serve,” Fire Chief David Lind, said.

“By bringing firefighters together to share knowledge and practice critical skills, we’re enhancing our ability to respond effectively to wildland interface fires.”

The Responding to the Interface course was developed in collaboration with the International Association of Firefighters, and supported through federal grant funding.

The City of Vernon said hosting this training session was an important step in strengthening the preparedness and capabilities of Interior firefighters.
