The Liberal Party now has a runner in next month’s federal election race.

Biologist, Dr. Anna Warwick Sears, who calls herself a political centrist with sound policy ideas, has been acclaimed by the party for the Vernon – Lake Country – Monashee riding.

She was the NDP candidate in Kelowna – Lake Country – Coldstream for the 2024 provincial election.

Warwick Sears spent almost two decades as Executive Director of the Okanagan Basin Water Board until her recent retirement.

A media release from her campaign said, in part, her work has encompassed government relations; delivering applied water science in partnership with government and university researchers; attracting funding and other resources for climate adaptation; and acting as spokesperson for media and public communications.

She is member of the International Osoyoos Lake Board of Control, appointed by the International Joint Commission, and an alternate commissioner on the Skagit Environmental Endowment Commission, appointed by the B.C. Premier. She is also a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the Faculty of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia.

Warwick Sears grew up on Kootenay Lake and lived in Vernon prior to moving to Kelowna for the Okanagan Basin Water Board. Anna currently lives in Coldstream, and in her free time enjoys gardening, bike riding, paddling, cross-country skiing, and all that the Okanagan has to offer.

The other declared candidates for the Vernon-Lake Country-Monashee riding are Scott Anderson (Conservative Party), Leah Main ( NDP), Blair Visscher (Green Party of Canada) and Arsh Dhillon (People’s Party of Canada).
