One person was taken into custody after a four-hour stand-off Thursday night in Spallumcheen.

At around 10:20 p.m., the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP received a report of a disturbance at a residence in McLeod Subdivision.

According to a media release from Mounties, the initial information indicated a man allegedly armed with a weapon was threatening another person inside a home on the property, refusing to let them leave.

The responding frontline officers initially made contact with both the victim and suspect. Eventually, both exited the house and the victim was able to get to safety.

The suspect ignored the direction of the officers and went back inside the house, refusing to come out.

Given the heightened risk, assistance was sought from the RCMP’s Critical Incident Program and members of the RCMP’s Southeast District Emergency Response Team were deployed to the scene.

At approximately 2 a.m., the suspect exited the residence and surrendered to police.

The 48-year old Spallumcheen man faces a number of potential Criminal Charges in relation to the incident. He is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court later today.
