UPDATE: Driver fled scene after pedestrian struck in downtown Vernon

The vehicle allegedly involved in a pedestrian collision in downtown Vernon Wednesday afternoon did not remain on scene after the accident.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP told Vernon Matters a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 34th St. and 30th Ave. at approximately 4:30 p.m., March 26.

Police say the pedestrian was crossing 34th Ave. and a vehicle, described as a blue truck, at first stopped at the intersection to permit two pedestrians to cross.

The truck then accelerated through the intersection, turning right onto 30th Ave. and allegedly sticking one of the pedestrians on the foot.

Police said the truck did not stay on the scene, and the collision was under investigation.

Anyone with information about the collision was asked to contact the RCMP at 250-545-7171.

Emergency Health Services told Vernon Matters that paramedics attended and provided emergency medical treatment at the scene. The victim, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, was then taken to hospital for further treatment.

A person was reportedly hit by a vehicle at a downtown Vernon intersection Wednesday afternoon.

Dispatch reports at around 4:30 p.m., March 26, stated a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle at 30th Avenue and 34th Street.

The person had reportedly made it up onto the sidewalk, and firefighters and paramedics attended the scene.

The condition of the person involved was not disclosed, and it was not clear if the driver of the vehicle involved stayed on the scene.

It was also not stated if the person was in a crosswalk with a lit walk signal when they were struck.
