Arraignment hearing in Vernon flight from police case pushed back

A man facing charges stemming from a police chase in Vernon will be back in court at a later date.

Dale Babiy was due in Vernon law courts for an arraignment hearing in a flight from police case Thursday, March 20.

The B.C. Prosecution service said, at the request of Babiy’s counsel, the hearing was rescheduled for March 27.

Babiy was arrested in December of 2024 after police deployed a spike strip to stop him, then had to chase him down on foot.

Babiy was charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited , and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

The accused was also wanted on warrants for assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

The trial in that case was ongoing, with closing submissions to be submitted at Vernon court Monday, March 24.

Babiy remains in custody.
