New multi-million-dollar Parkinson Rec Centre plans to be unveiled

Mar 5, 2025 | 5:30 PM

The initial plans for the huge redevelopment of the Parkinson Recreation Centre in Kelowna are ready to be formally revealed.

City council will get to view those plans at a regular meeting on Monday.

The city will borrow $240 million to build the massive project and two other recreation facilities elsewhere in the city.

When complete, the City said the new Parkinson Rec will have five times more athletic space than it does now, more than double the aquatic space, and three times as many programs on offer.

Aquatic amenities will include a 25-metre 10 lane pool, leisure pool, hot tub, cold plunge, steam room, and sauna.

The plans also call for three full-sized gyms, fitness centre, a running/walking track, fitness studios, multi-purpose rooms.

There will also be food services, the ORL express library and a dedicated childcare space.

The 19.4-hectare park, the equivalent of 20 football fields, will include six sports fields, 24 pickleball courts, connections to the Apple Bowl and Mill Creek, park space, and access to the Okanagan Rail Trail.

The Redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre has been a significant priority for the City of Kelowna for over a decade.
